Join this small group Literary Pub Crawl in London and see the pubs and taverns where the giants of the literary world ate, drank, discussed, thought and worked.

This new and unique tour is artist-led and arranged by The Maverick Theatre Company, a not-for-profit charity.  It involves local writers and artists from London's West End and the UK TV and Film industry.  There's a lovely synergy, that by coming on the tour, you are supporting a current generation of (usually) struggling writers and artists in London!

The tour takes in not only the history of literature in London but some of its contemporary places and spaces too - including those relevant to songwriters such as Sir Paul McCartney and Jimi Hendrix - and looks at some key elements in the writers' lives.  Tours start in Fitzrovia and end in Soho, and include those pubs and bars associated with the British Film industry and contemporary writers.  So you never know which modern writers or artists you might bump into...!

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pubs do we visit and what do we see? -- You'll visit about a dozen pubs and top private members clubs, but you'll only be able to spend time drinking at the start, at the end, and a few along the way. You'll see where these great minds thought, debated and drank. And you may meet famous writers and characters from the past...

What if I don't want to drink alcohol? -- That's absolutely fine. Although it's a pub crawl, it's more about the artists that used the pubs and clubs than the booze itself.

What if I want to drink lots of alcohol? -- That is also fine, although you probably won't have time for more than two or three drinks during the tour. However, you may want to revisit the pubs you have been to for a more "substantial" session! You'll have about three or four breaks for drinks. The tour starts and, more importantly, ends at a pub. The route is fairly compact, so it's easy to return to a favorite pub after the tour!
